Is there any cost associated with the tutoring services?
No. It is completely free of charge. Tutors are volunteers, who have received tutor training to work specifically with adult learners.
Who are you guys?
The Adult Learning Centre is an organization providing learning supports to the Comox Valley since 1993, inviting and supporting individuals looking for extra assistance to gain new skills. Our friendly, qualified staff and volunteers are available for workshops, one to one tutoring, and specialized learning supports.
Can you help me to get my Drivers Licence?
Yes. We help with a variety of classes of driver’s licences (1 through 5)
Can you help me get my grade 12?
Yes, we can help you get your grade 12. In addition, we can assist you to determine where this might take you, or if there may be other options open to you.
Do you provide any workplace related training?
No, but we offer support and assistance with a variety of workplace training courses, such as First Aid, Foodsafe, Superhost, and more!
Can you help me learn to read?
Yes!
Can you help me with math?
Yes, we can do that too. We offer a variety of math supports to meet the specific needs of individual learners.
I am taking a course at North Island College (NIDES, Malaspina) and I need some help, what do you offer?
We offer one on one tutoring support for a wide variety of courses, primarily the Adult Basic education (ABE) area. If available, we can also match you with a tutor who has related skills and experience to your field of study.
I have a busy schedule, what times can I get tutoring?
We prefer appointments to be scheduled during the day, but we can also make appointments on evenings and weekends.
Are there age restrictions?
Yes. You must be 19 years of age.
Do you offer courses?
No we don’t offer courses; however, if you are taking a course we can help you with any tutoring required for the course.
Do you provide learning disability assessment?
No, not specifically, but we can informally, or make referrals.
Do you offer computer courses?
Not specific programs; however, we can provide support for people taking computer courses. We do not offer formal computer training, but we can arrange one on one training as required.
